Hubris Nymph

All that is certain is that she has about her a terrifying evil purpose, for men who were touched by her immediately went mad. She was not pride only, but the terror of pride, with power to massacre as she willed.

It is possible that the Titans are the white clay men, the ghosts who have been burned to ashes and battle to return to life. If this is true, the revolt of the Titans is the revolt of the Dead.

Hubris represents one form of pride; the Titans represent another. Hubris comes from above, the Titan pride comes from below.

In psychological terms, one represents the overweening demands of the unconscious, the other represents the overweening demands which men make when they are most conscious of themselves.

The pride of Hubris, therefore, is clear cut and towering, while the Titan pride turns steeply inward towards the vast dream world, where power manifests itself in terms of sexual dimensions: incest, sodomy, the desire to emasculate the father and sleep with the mother; a dream world where titanic rage abounds.
